CONGRATULATIONS to the middle school and high school students that performed this past Wednesday at the District 7 Honors Band. You represented the school district and band program with exemplary behavior and musicianship

MIDDLE SCHOOL BANDS

7th & 8th Grade Band Festival Preview Concert
–> Monday, February 11th →  6:30pm
–>Report Time 6:00pm

8th Grade students are invited to play with the HS band during pep band games.
–> Check your email for the sign up in google forms.


HIGH SCHOOL BANDS

High School Solo Ensemble
–> Piano accompanists have been assigned and contact information has been sent out.
       –> Check you email. It is YOUR responsibility to arrange practices.
–> DATE: February 9th @ Muskegon Oakridge High School

High School Symphonic Band & Wind Ensemble Festival Preview Concert
–> TIME CHANGE – Monday, February 11th → 8:00 pm
–> Report time: 7:15pm

Pep Band
–>Tonight – Friday 1/11/19 → Report time 5:00pm
–> Both Girls and Boys Varsity Games

As first mentioned by the band boosters in December this years uniform cleaning fee of $25 is due Friday, Feb 18th.

WEEK 9 – (10/22 – 10/26)

5TH GRADE BAND

6TH GRADE BAND

  • We now have tubas and euphoniums (aka baritones)!

7TH GRADE BAND

  • Assessment 1 on “Bb” & “Eb” scale patterns will continue on Monday.

8TH GRADE BAND

  • Assessment retakes are open on google classroom.
  • Working on combined band & choir repertoire.

HIGH SCHOOL BANDS

  • Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band started with two great rehearsals!
  • Audition materials for chair placements in has been passed out and available in Google Classroom
    • Students will be responsible to record and upload their audition to google classroom on their own time. Percussion will be given class time due to the nature of their instrument. This is also worth a grade.
    • Additional instructions are also in Google Classroom
    • Due – Wednesday, October 31st (except percussion)

Newsletter Week 8

WEEK 8 – (10/15 – 10/18)

5TH GRADE BAND

  • The “newness” has worn off and some students are beginning to struggle because they are not practicing.
  • A little bit of practice can go a long way. Quality over quantity!
  • Many students are struggling with reading note names. www.musicracer.com is a great game to help students learn note names and fingerings!

6TH GRADE BAND

  • Eb scale!
  • Ask your student to name the “Eb” Concert danger note.

7TH & 8th GRADE BAND

  • Band Uniform polos were passed out and should have been brought home.
    • A handful of students did not receive a uniform because we needed to order more!
  • Solo and ensemble pianist information was handed out. Please contact your pianist as soon as possible and set up at least 2 rehearsal times. Pianists may come in during class, seminar or after school.
  • 7th Grade: Test on “pink sheet” scales #1 (Bb) & #2 (Eb) coming up at the end of next week
  • 8th Grade: Grades from the past test will be posted
    • Students can submit test retakes on google classrooms
    • Challenges are now open if students choose to complete and submit.

HIGH SCHOOL BANDS

REMINDERS

  • Home Football Game TONIGHT →  Report time 4:45pm

  • Band Banquet/Auditorium Show – TOMORROW Saturday, 10/20
    • Dinner will start at 5:00pm (Good seats fill up fast!)
      • Students are encouraged to dress nicely!
      • All family members are invited to attend.
      • Each family should plan to bring a main dish and a salad or dessert to share as well as their own beverage, plates, napkins a cutlery.
    • Auditorium show will begin at approximately 6:15pm
      • Students will be in full marching band uniform.
    • A silent auction to help students fundraise for the NY trip will be going on throughout the evening. Stay tuned for more information!
