Coopersville High School offers numerous instrumental music opportunities through a well-rounded music curriculum. Students have the opportunity to not just become a better musician but also develop leadership skills that will help lead them to successful careers in what ever field they may choose. The band program function with a family philosophy and student will make friends that will last a life time.
Wind Ensemble – Open to grades 9 to 12 with previous instrumental instruction and by audition
The Wind Ensemble is an auditioned group of students who perform advanced literature. The Wind Ensemble is a purposely smaller ensemble with many players only one to a part. The Wind Ensemble performs at school concerts and festival evaluations. Student must be enrolled in band for the entire year beginning with the Marching Band in the fall. Exception will only be made with director approval.
Symphonic Band – Open to grades 9 to 12 with previous instrumental instruction
The Symphonic Band is ensemble that will perform varied types of literature at many different levels. The Symphonic Band is a larger ensemble with numerous people on a part. The Symphonic Band performs at school concerts and festival evaluations. Student must be enrolled in band for the entire year beginning with the Marching Band in the fall. Exception will only be made with director approval.
Marching Band – Open to grades 9 to 12 with previous instrumental instruction
The Bronco Band performs at home football games and various festival evaluations. The marching season is typically the first 6-7 weeks of the school year. The season ends with a banquet and an auditorium show. Student then move to either the Wind Ensemble or Symphonic Band for the remained of the year. Marching Band is required by student wishing to perform in one of the two concert bands. The Bronco Band is one of the most visible band to our community and performs with pride and spirit.
Jazz Band – Open to grades 9 to 12 with permission from the director
Jazz Band is a zero hour class that performs the uniquely American art form of Jazz. Students will experience numerous styles and get the opportunity to improvise. The Jazz Band performs at school concerts, CMU Jazz Weekend, TAC Jazz Festival and other community events. The Jazz Band is an extension of the concert band and students must be enrolled in one of the concert bands. Special considerations may be made for Piano and Guitar.
