Newsletter Weeks 6 and 7

Week 6 & 7 – (10/1 – 10/10)

CONFERENCES: We politely encourage only parents that have a question or concern sign up for a parent teacher conference time slot. Please keep in mind we have close to 500 students in the band program! Thank you.

PRACTICING: Students should be practicing 3 times a week for around 15 minutes each time.

REEDS: Students should have a minimum of 3 reeds in their case at all times. More info about reed suggestions can be found on the website.

FUNDRAISERS

    • Chocolate Sale – All $$$ was due this past week!
      • Unpaid bills will be submitted to the office soon
    • Pizza Sale – Coupons were passed out during class. Questions or concerns please email booster president, Amy Karns: president@coopersvillebands.org
    • Family Fare Receipts – Keep bringing them in!!

5TH GRADE BAND

    • Essential Elements – #10 – #14
    • Ask your student to play you a song from the book!

6TH GRADE BAND

    • Students selected to play the baritone & tuba will be announced Monday.
    • Pieces we are rehearsing: Christmas Fanfare, Nuttin’ for Christmas, Santa’s Away the Elves Will Play, Cataclysm, Belwin Christmas
    • Star Club #9 – Bb Scale, Star Club #10 – Eb Scale, Starclub #11- F Major Scale
    • All 6th grade band students should be able to play the Bb Scale!

7TH GRADE BAND

  • Sample recordings of solo and ensemble pieces are available on Google Classroom and website. Students must sign into using their school account.
  • Pieces we are rehearsing: Abominable Snowman, At the Feast of Stephen, Do You Hear What I Hear, March on the King’s Highway
  • 7th graders should be able to play #1 (Bb) & #2 (Eb) on the Pink Scale Sheet. Playing test will be soon!

8TH GRADE BAND

  • Sample recordings for solo and ensemble pieces are available on Google Classroom and website. Students must sign into using their school username and password.
  • Pieces we are rehearsing: A Holiday Sing Along,  Bobsled Run, A Christmas Festival, Moscow 1941
  • Scale tests will finish early next week and scores and chairs will be announced at the end of next week.

HIGH SCHOOL BANDS

PERFORMANCES

  • Homecoming Parade and Game 10/12 → Report Time: 3:45
    • Both the parade and game are required performances.
    • Students will be feed dinner in between the parade and game.
  • Home Football Game 10/19 →  Report time 5:00pm
  • Band Banquet/Auditorium Show – Saturday, 10/20
    • Dinner will start at 5:00pm (Good seats fill up fast!)
      • Students are encouraged to dress nicely!
      • All family members are invited to attend.
      • Each family should plan to bring a main dish and a salad or dessert to share as well as their own beverage, plates, napkins a cutlery.
    • Auditorium show will begin at approximately 6:30pm
      • Students will be in full uniform.
    • A silent auction to help students fundraise for the NY trip will be going on throughout the evening. Stay tuned for more information!

Date October 20th at Coopersville High School

5:00 Potluck dinner in high school cafeteria

  • Each family brings a main dish and a salad or dessert for potluck dinner
    • Any and all family members invited – free!
    • Bring your own plates, napkins, cutlery and beverages.

6:30 Auditorium Show

Both the Dinner/Awards presentation and the Auditorium show are both required.

 

Band Booster Update

CHOCOLATE SALE: We still have a lot of money due for chocolate, so please bring it is by the end of this week so we can get it wrapped up! High School students can continue to check chocolate out if they have paid for all other boxes and we have some left.
 
**Please remember that 5th grade through 8th grade student sales will go to the general fund. The 9th through 12th grade student first box sales will go toward the general fund and any additional boxes sold will go towards their band trip.
 
HOMECOMING: We are in need of 2 more volunteers for Friday’s festivities! Wow, thanks to everyone that has signed up so far!
 
HUNGRY HOWIES PIZZA COUPONS: We had a profit of $6,404.28. Thank you to everyone that participated.
