WORDS OF INSPIRATION · NO. 8

Tie

Last week was Teacher Appreciation Week, so I want to share something that I do to show my appreciation for you.

The question I have been asked a lot is, “Why do you wear a tie?” Most male teachers don’t wear one anymore. I do think our teaching staff always dresses very professionally, but the idea of wearing a tie has become a little outdated. And no, it’s not because I’m old!

I wear a tie every day because of the respect I have for you as musicians and for the program we create together. It is the same reason I don’t allow hats in rehearsal. At least from my point of view, it shows respect for others.

So remember, when you see me wearing a tie, it is a reminder of how much I care about you and everything we do together.

From the band room, with gratitude.
