WORDS OF INSPIRATION · NO. 4

Taking a Risk

Welcome back from Spring Break! I hope you all had time to enjoy yourselves and that you are rested and ready for the final push of the school year.

Today I want to share something that inspires me as a teacher. This isn't about one specific student, but about many students over the years. One of the best parts of being a band director is watching how you grow. I can think of several students who started as beginners and didn't say much in class, but were always prepared and doing solid work. Every now and then, one of those students raises their hand to play in class. I am always eager to call on that person, because they have chosen to put themselves out there. Then I get to hear what they have been working on, and it is amazing. The smile on their face shows that they learned a valuable life lesson, and the next time they are even more willing to take that chance again.

Don't be afraid to put yourself out there. Your teachers are always amazed at what you can do.

Do you want to comment on what you read, or share a story of your own? Replies are always welcome!

From the band room, with gratitude.
