COOPERSVILLE BANDS

WORDS OF INSPIRATION · NO. 2

A New Experience

Good Morning Band Family,

It is the Monday before Spring Break, so I thought it would be a great time for another of Mr. V’s Words of Inspiration.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to hear several of our talented high school students perform with the GRCC Honors Bands at St. Cecilia Music Center. The bands were outstanding, and I am proud of the hard work they put in. But this is not really about that. These students chose to put themselves in a situation that was completely new to them. They had to meet new people, work with a new director, and make music together. That can be a very challenging thing to do.

Nobody forced them to participate. They volunteered. Because of that, they stepped into something uncertain and took a risk to do something great. I have dealt with that same kind of fear my entire life, and if I had not taken opportunities like this, I would not be where I am today. I am so glad I did, because teaching here at Coopersville has been one of the best things that has ever happened to me.

As you go through middle school and high school, take time to find opportunities that push you out of your comfort zone. Your grades and tests are important, but this kind of growth is just as important.

Have a great week!

Mr. V

From the band room, with gratitude.
